Sergei Guriev

Provost and Professor of Economics, Sciences Po

Sergei Guriev joined the Economics Department in 2013. From 2019 to 2022 he was the Scientific Director of Sciences Po's Master's and PhD programmes in economics. In July, 2022 he was appointed as Sciences Po Provost by the President of Sciences Po. He is a Research Fellow at the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) and member of the Executive Committee of the International Economic Association. In 2016-19, he served as the Chief Economist at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Dr. Guriev’s research interests include contract theory, corporate governance, political economics and labour mobility. Dr. Guriev has published in international refereed journals including American Economic Review, Journal of European Economic Association, Journal of Economic Perspectives and American Political Science Review.

Prior to joining Sciences Po, Sergei Guriev visited the Department of Economics at M.I.T. for a one-year post-doctoral placement in 1997-98, and in 2003-2004, the Department of Economics at Princeton University as a Visiting Assistant Professor. In 1999-2013, he was on the faculty of the New Economic School in Moscow, in 2004-13 being a tenured faculty member and Rector of the New Economic School.
